Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey or brown sugar, rice vinegar, water, minced ginger, and minced garlic until uniform. Set aside.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season chicken thighs with salt and pepper and add to the skillet once oil is shimmering. Sear chicken for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Carefully pour the prepared teriyaki sauce over the chicken. Stir gently to coat each piece, and let it bubble for about 1-2 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, combine cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Gradually add this to the skillet, stirring continuously for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove skillet from heat, transfer chicken to a serving platter, and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
