Step-by-Step Instructions

  2. Peel the sweet potatoes and slice them into thin rounds, about ⅛ inch thick, layering them in the baking dish.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Whisk in brown sugar, heavy cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the warm sauce evenly over the sweet potatoes, ensuring every slice is well-covered.
  5. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown and the sweet potatoes are fork-tender.
  7. If using mini marshmallows, sprinkle them on top during the last 5 minutes of baking.
