  • 4 tablespoons Butter Replace with oil for a dairy-free option.
  • 1 large Egg Swap with a flax egg for vegan.
  • 1 cup Water Lukewarm water is best for activating yeast.
For the Cheeseburgers
  • 1 pound Ground Beef Lean beef or turkey can substitute.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Feel free to experiment with spices.
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 8 slices Cheese Use cheddar, Swiss, or vegan cheese.

Method
 

Skull Bun Preparation
  1. Grease a skull pan with butter. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, sugar, salt, softened butter, and lukewarm water. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  2. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.
  3. Punch dough down, divide into 8 pieces, press into skull pan cavities. Let rise for another hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake skull buns for 14-18 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Allow buns to cool completely on a wire rack.
Cheeseburger Preparation
  1. Divide ground beef into 8 portions, shape into small skulls, and chill for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Season patties with salt and pepper before cooking.
  3. Heat skillet over medium-high heat, add oil, and cook skull-shaped patties for 3 minutes on each side.
  4. Place cheese slices on patties during the last minute of cooking to melt.
Assembly
  1. Slice cooled buns in half, place a cheeseburger patty on the bottom half, and add favorite toppings.
  2. Cap with the top half of the skull bun and serve.
