  • 1 cup Warm Water Between 105°F to 115°F.

  • 1 packet Active Dry Yeast Check for freshness.
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
For the Black Topping
  • 1 cup Rice Flour
  • 2 tablespoons Black Food Coloring or Activated Charcoal Adjust for preference.

Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the instant bread mix, active dry yeast, warm water, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, and salt. Stir until the dough begins to form; then add red food coloring.
Shaping Dough
  1. Lightly flour your hands and divide the dough into 12 equal portions. Shape into balls and place on a greased cookie sheet, covered with a towel to rise.
Black Topping Preparation
  1. Blend together rice flour, sugar, vegetable oil, salt, and water to prepare the black topping, adding black food coloring gradually.
Resting Topping
  1. Cover the black topping mixture and let it sit for about 15 minutes to meld the ingredients.
Applying Topping
  1. Generously smear the black topping over each risen red dough ball and let rest for another 15 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and bake for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through for even browning.
Cooling
  1. Let the bread cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
