Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare three 8-inch round cake pans by greasing or lining with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, ¾ cup of cocoa powder, 1 ½ cups of granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, crack in 3 eggs and add 1 cup of milk along with 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract; whisk until fully combined.
  4. Divide the batter equally into three bowls. Fold in ½ cup of melted chocolate for the chocolate layer, mix in 1 cup of pureed strawberries for the fruity layer, and leave the third bowl plain.
  5. Pour each flavored batter into prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Remove the pans from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Whip the cream cheese until fluffy, then gradually mix in 2 cups of confectioners' sugar, adding a splash of milk for a smoother consistency if needed.
  8. To assemble, place the chocolate layer on a cake stand, frost with cream cheese mixture, stack the strawberry layer, frost again, and finish with the vanilla layer.
  9. Garnish the top of your Neapolitan Cake with fresh strawberries, chocolate shavings, or colorful sprinkles.
  10. Slice the cake into pieces and serve alongside fresh berries or vanilla ice cream.
