Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare three 8-inch round cake pans by greasing or lining with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, ¾ cup of cocoa powder, 1 ½ cups of granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
- In a separate bowl, crack in 3 eggs and add 1 cup of milk along with 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract; whisk until fully combined.
- Divide the batter equally into three bowls. Fold in ½ cup of melted chocolate for the chocolate layer, mix in 1 cup of pureed strawberries for the fruity layer, and leave the third bowl plain.
- Pour each flavored batter into prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Remove the pans from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Whip the cream cheese until fluffy, then gradually mix in 2 cups of confectioners' sugar, adding a splash of milk for a smoother consistency if needed.
- To assemble, place the chocolate layer on a cake stand, frost with cream cheese mixture, stack the strawberry layer, frost again, and finish with the vanilla layer.
- Garnish the top of your Neapolitan Cake with fresh strawberries, chocolate shavings, or colorful sprinkles.
- Slice the cake into pieces and serve alongside fresh berries or vanilla ice cream.
