Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. Begin by thinly slicing the onions. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat and cook onions gently for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and smoked paprika to make the secret sauce.
  3. Shape ground beef into wide, thin patties (about ½ inch thick) and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, cook patties for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
  5. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Layer with cheese, a beef patty, caramelized onions, more cheese, and top with another slice of bread.
  6. Grill sandwiches in the skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula.
  7. Remove, slice in half, and serve hot with remaining secret sauce on the side.
