Step‑by‑Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (Fan 180°C/Gas 6) and grease a 27 × 23 cm baking dish.
- Layer 1 kg of frozen fruit in the greased baking dish, and chop 2–3 Granny Smith apples and add them on top.
- Sprinkle 4 tablespoons of caster sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground mixed spice, and lemon zest over the fruit. Drizzle with 2 teaspoons of vanilla bean paste.
- In a bowl, combine 150g of plain flour, 4 tablespoons of caster sugar, and 100g of cold, diced butter. Mix until it resembles coarse crumbs and fold in 80g of rolled oats.
- Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the prepared fruit layer.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
- Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before serving warm, ideally with ice cream or custard.

Notes
For best results, ensure butter is cold and avoid over-mixing the topping. Adjust sugar for fresh fruit as needed.
