Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Rolling Pin
  • sharp knife or pizza cutter
  • deep saucepan or pot
  • slotted spoon
  • paper towels

Method

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast, allowing it to proof until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt; create a well in the center.
  3. Pour in the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract, stirring until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface, and knead it with your hands for 5-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and place it in a warm, draft-free area. Allow the dough to rise until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. After the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release the air, then transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out to a thickness of about ½ inch, and cut the dough into squares or your preferred shapes.
  7. In a deep saucepan or pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the dough pieces to the hot oil, cooking for about 2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  8. Once fried, dust them generously with powdered sugar while they’re still warm. Serve immediately for the best experience.
