Step-by-Step Instructions for Homemade Apple Cider
- Begin by washing and quartering the apples and placing them in a large stockpot. Halve the orange and set aside.
- Add the apples, orange halves, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg to the pot. Cover with water by 2 inches and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours.
- Remove the orange halves and mash the apple mixture thoroughly to release juices. Simmer uncovered for an additional hour, stirring occasionally.
- Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a large bowl or pitcher, using the back of a spoon to extract all the juice.
