Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, stirring occasionally and breaking it apart while it browns for about 5-7 minutes.
  2. If excess grease is present, drain it off. Add chopped onions, green bell peppers, and mushrooms. Cook for 3-4 minutes until vegetables soften.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add ketchup and Worcestershire sauce, mixing well. Simmer for 1 minute.
  4. Whisk cornstarch into beef broth until smooth. Pour into skillet, stirring to combine. Season with salt and pepper, and cook for 2-3 minutes until sauce thickens.
  5. Layer provolone cheese over beef mixture and cover. Cook for 1 minute until cheese melts. Stir to incorporate.
  6. Remove skillet from heat and prepare hamburger buns. Serve the filling on buns, optionally with fries or salad.
